Overview
Function
The NWT Arts Council provides recommendations to the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment on financial awards for creative artistic projects in the film and media arts, visual, literary and performing arts, and on issues and policies associated with the arts and artists.

Board Composition
The NWT Arts Council consists of not more than six members, one of whom shall be designated as Chairperson.
Alternate Members
There are no alternate members.
The Policy does not provide for the appointment of alternates on the NWT Arts Council.
Chairperson
The Chairperson is designated from amongst the Board members.
Vice-Chairperson
There is no Vice-Chairperson.
Quorum
The Policy is silent on quorum.
Appointment Instrument
Members are appointed by Executive Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment under the NWT Arts Council Policy.
Term Duration
A member holds office for not more than a two year term and may be eligible for reappointment.
Time and Travel Requirements
The Arts Council shall meet at least twice per year or as needed.
Meetings may take place in person or by video conference.
Members decide upon regulation of meeting, time and attendance.
Remuneration
Members shall receive remuneration according to Executive Council classification and Financial Management Board Secretariat directives.
Category - Advisory
Chairperson - up to $300 per day
Member - up to $250 per day
Chair and members – 50% per half-day (i.e., 3.5 hours or less), for work on board business for each day of meetings
Other Considerations
Appointments shall be staggered on alternating years to ensure business continuity.
Members should have experience or knowledge in the arts, culture and/or heritage.
People cannot serve as a member of the NWT Arts Council if they or their spouse are currently receiving funding from the NWT Art Council.
Members require a basic ability to use the following video conference application: Zoom.
Members need to be residents of the of the geographic area they represent.
